About This Project
The Opera House renovation project formerly began in July, 2012 with the hiring of an architect. All construction documents were completed in August, 2013 (See floor plans and renderings page). Total renovation costs are estimated at 2.7 million dollars. This renovation is the primary program of the Havre de Grace Community Projects organization.
Previous to the hiring of an architect an "Existing Conditions Assessment" was performed. This assessment included the following:
Structural Integrity Assessment
Hazardous Materials Report
The current building was found to have the following structural deficiencies:
General Safety Concerns
General Structural (brick repointing, windows, doors etc.)
In addition, the current condition has resulted in the under-utilization of the buiding by many other arts related groups ranging from performing to visual arts. ADA Non-Compliance and lack of accessibility has prevented arts organizations that would make use of the building from applying for Federal, State and local funding opportunities.
